1 What is Yellow Courtyard?
Yellow Courtyard features an “inclusionary” approach of the coordination to subscribers’ health and well being, offering consumers a full spectrum of information and possibilities in the world of healthcare. Yellow Courtyard has been founded with the intention of providing integrative, collaborative healthcare while offering complete continuity of care. There are many aspects to the organization that help us facilitate these offerings, including custom developed software, a proprietary methodology, and several medical information databases. We use our new global medical record storage technology and other technology-based programs to efficiently and effectively allow for practitioners from all healthcare orientations to collaborate with subscribers and with their fellow practitioners to create customized treatment strategies. Although we provide a complete spectrum of consultation and treatment services, our main objective is to educate the healthcare consumers and empower them, by restoring them to the helm of their healthcare decision making processes.

2 What is www.yellowcourtyard.com ?
This innovative web portal represents a breakthrough in online medical/healthcare delivery services, empowerment and education for the healthcare consumer. We offer thousands of pages of information from over 25 healing departments containing more than 200 healing modalities from all corners of the world, in an easy-to-use format. This user-friendly site offers visitors the ability to expand their medical and healthcare knowledge, and to optimize the range and effectiveness of his or her treatment and healing plan.

We see medical treatment and healthcare from an inclusionary perspective, which does not assign a preferred position to Western medicine or any other major medical/healthcare discipline, but gives equal respect to the multitude of healing modalities from the world’s major cultures and sub-cultures. Our network of renowned medical/healthcare practitioners represent these wide-ranging modalities, which work together like the spokes in a wheel. The patient, or “Explorer,” which is our term of choice is at the hub of the wheel and not in exclusive reliance on any one of these healing systems. Through collaboration and integration, a number of modalities can be chosen and used in concert with each other for optimum healing results.

3 What does the term “Inclusionary Health” mean?
Is it the same as “alternative medicine” or “complementary medicine?”
No. There is a difference. “Inclusionary” means that all responsible healthcare disciplines, from all cultures and sub-cultures, are given equal status as possible modalities in a patient’s potential treatment regimen. A group of these modalities may be selected for inclusion, in a customized and integrative fashion, to address a person’s total health and medical needs. “Alternative” and “complementary” signify or imply a “substitution” to Western medical treatment, or “one additional” mode of treatment, discounting other valuable and legitimate forms of treatment. “Inclusionary” means the examination of the many possibilities available, and then making choices to use those modalities that best fit with the patient’s customized treatment strategy. In addition to including each responsible medical system as a stand-alone option in any individual’s course of treatment, Inclusionary Health™ also considers that integration of systems, collaboration among different providers, continuity-of-care, and a holistic mindset are important to consider when generating a customized healthcare plan. These frameworks are also included in the realm of possibilities in determining your personalized direction towards reaching your goals. Simply, Yellow Courtyard includes all possibilities in helping you identify your needs and choices as well as maintaining the tools to support your decisions with information and treatment options.

4 Who is Yellow Courtyard designed for?
Yellow Courtyard is designed for anyone interested in:
  • addressing a critical medical need
  • maintaining or improving his or her state of health
  • understanding themselves and the world around them more intimately thus, expanding consciousness
  • a preventive measure to ensure long-term optimal health
  • for the treatment of a specific condition or set of conditions
In addition, those with ailments that have been diagnosed within the paradigm of one individual healthcare discipline as very serious or even “terminal” are invited to consider the hope, increased benefits and impact provided by the integrative and collaborative regimen of multiple disciplines. In addition, adult children of elderly parents, or parents of very ill children, are invited to consider Yellow Courtyard’s program as well.

5 What was the genesis for Yellow Courtyard?
Yellow Courtyard emerged from Founder and CEO Jason Gordon’s initial studies of a wide range of healing modalities from different cultures and sub-cultures from around the world. This was coupled with his desire to establish an integrative, holistic healing center, and augmented by his own recovery from cancer in 1999 through the utilization of a number of different healing modalities. “I utilized Western medicine,” he said, “but I didn’t ‘go Western’ and I didn’t ‘go alternative’ exclusively. I took advantage of many orientations into the healing process and included them all in considering my personalized healing plan. I was seeing an Oriental medical physician, a cross-culturally educated nutritionist, a multi-dimensional psychotherapist, an energy healer, an oncologist, a surgeon, and my general internist. I was maintaining a regular meditation practice, employing my education in yoga asana and pranayama, and practicing creative visualization.”

"I concluded that each of these modalities represents a unique and wise perspective on healing and may have virtue in and of themselves, but I also considered the possibility that they could be integrated in an infinite number of ways, customized to meet a patient’s current needs. The concept of collaboration is also a key factor in the equation. Through the integration of a variety of medical modalities, certain selected treatments can come together to maximize the total healing process for an individual. The coordination of this effort is the greatest service Yellow Courtyard provides. Considering the medical background I had at the time I was challenged with cancer, it was still difficult for me to coordinate my healing team—even without the resulting depletion of energy and focus due to illness.”

“I think of Yellow Courtyard as an inclusionary perspective applied to the healing arts.”

6 How did you come to name this “Yellow Courtyard?”
First, the concept of the “courtyard” is a neutral space, found in all cultures and all religions, it is inclusionary of all perspectives. It is a place of neutrality and gathering, a place where people share ideas and come together. It is also a surrounded and protected space a place of sanctuary within communities and institutions.

Second, the color “yellow” is found in virtually all cultures to have a positive connotation – including “the light of the sun” in Western culture; the concept of the Earth, the center of nourishment and nurturance in Chinese medical theory; connoting “humility” in Buddhist thought; suggesting “sacredness” and “divinity” in Christian thought, and “beauty” in Jewish and Kabbalistic thought; indicating “light” and “life” in Hindu thought; and symbolizing the “setting sun” in American-Indian thought.

In addition, after coming up with the name, Founder Jason Gordon learned the meaning of the words Yellow Court while studying medical Qigong. It is an aspect of the human being and consciousness – where things wait. In Chinese medicine, the analogy to a kingdom is made for the human being. In a kingdom everything must pass through the emperor. In Chinese Medicine, the emperor is our heart. If the emperor (heart) is not capable or prepared to process an experience or consideration, it must wait somewhere—they call this place the Yellow Court.

“I like to think of the Yellow Court as a waiting room for the heart,” says Jason, “and whatever hasn’t passed before the emperor (your heart) – whatever you haven’t become aware of – will eventually keep you from growing – or cause you to get sick. Yellow Courtyard is the gentle place that helps escort you from the Yellow Court back to the seat of your own throne. I like to think of Yellow Courtyard as that gentle place between the Yellow Court and your heart.”

“Yellow Courtyard is the virtual collaborative convergence center that is the Internet version of the holistic healthcare center I envisioned back in 1997,” said Gordon. It represents the inclusion of possibilities we may not otherwise consider and provides the platform of support for pursuing your healthcare in the manner that you choose—on your terms—with the educational component necessary to feel comfortable to do so.”

We are a web portal that celebrates and actualizes the idea of Inclusionary Health™. All of the primary features and benefits of our site have been constructed with this concept as the foundational underpinning. We educate and empower healthcare consumers with information and opportunities for choice based on an inclusionary philosophy, and we deliver customized healthcare coordination, most often utilizing integrative and collaborative frameworks.

Gold Explorer Membership

Expands upon the Premier Explorer Membership with a new service called My HealthMap.

My HealthMap

My HealthMap is designed for three different situations. The first is for individuals recently diagnosed with a disease, condition or ailment and are feeling overwhelmed and unsure about how to proceed. The second scenario is for those with a chronic condition and looking for better ways to manage and understand different treatment options. Finally, MyHealthMap is for individuals in need of information and resources on how best to help parents, children, friends or family who are facing serious conditions.

My HealthMap will provide the Explorer with a thorough understanding of their situation and information on available options. My HealthMap researchers will explore questions and procedures on what to expect, and how to get there. My HealthMap will contain personalized medical research on the Gold Explorer’s specific condition(s). Yellow Courtyard has a team of researchers ready to explore conditions from over 200 healing modalities, and on-going drug and clinical trials.

Platinum Level Explorers receive all the benefits described above, in addition to gaining access to our collaborative healthcare service network. With this revolutionary concept the Explorer benefits from the advice and treatment from a Core Collaboration Team – five leading medical/healthcare practitioners with mastery perspectives from five diverse healing orientations, who consult individually and then collaboratively develop an Integrative Diagnosis and Treatment Strategy™ (IDATS). Explorers are provided with a Navigator who coordinates all the services and acts as a liaison with your customized healthcare provider team.

Each Navigator is chosen based not only on his or her medical competency, but also on cross cultural/medical awareness, cross-trained medical vocabulary and open-mindedness, and their human relations skills and ability to communicate effectively with Explorers. Consider the Navigator your primary healthcare tutor in helping you understand what is happening, why it is happening, and what you can do about it. 23 This is all very virtual, does Yellow Courtyard have a physical location?
All of your medical consultations and meetings with your healthcare providers are done either in the practitioner’s office or at a local Yellow Courtyard office. There is no single centralized location for Yellow Courtyard. Rather, networks of healthcare practitioners from over 200 healing modalities are being formed in cities around the world. Currently, Miami, FL is the site for the first network. Subsequent networks are already in development. While we may not have established a network in your current location, many of Yellow Courtyard’s services and offerings, available nowhere else, are accessible through the website, and don’t require that you even leave your home. Furthermore, we welcome you to travel to a currently established network to experience the superior level of in person care, available by this team of superior healthcare providers.

24 Do I have to be in a certain city to benefit from the services of the network of practitioners?
There are many services Yellow Courtyard provides that don’t require you to be in the physical presence of a healthcare provider. However, at the Gold and Platinum level of Explorership, consultations with healthcare providers are in person and required. For all consultations and treatments with a Yellow Courtyard provider, you will need to visit their office or place of practice. If you do not live in a city with a Yellow Courtyard network of practitioners, you are not excluded from their services. However, it would be essential for you to travel to a city with a Yellow Courtyard network for these consults and/or treatments.

If you choose to visit a Yellow Courtyard Network, you can bring your ensuing Integrative Diagnosis and Treatment Strategy™ (IDATS) back to your home city. Feel free to contact any of the practitioners listed within our network for appointments or for a perspective on the services they provide within their respective practices.

Miami, Florida is Yellow Courtyard’s launch city. Other cities throughout the US and abroad are slated for launch in late 2009 and beyond.

Should you choose to make it available to your practitioners as well, this centralized repository (Universal MRA™) will also include a comprehensive online journal to track your diet, exercise, meditation, and sleep habits. Furthermore, your online journal will also serve as a way to organize your prescription and supplementation needs for effortless compliance.

30 Do I need to suspend taking all of the current medications I take in order to work with a collaboration team?
No. Yellow Courtyard sees this journey as a constant evolution. The beginning of this process is nothing more than a starting point. As we all have our own unique starting point, there is no right or wrong way to enter this process. Part of Yellow Courtyard’s methodology is to work with your collaboration team and your Primary Education Provider™ to create your personalized Integrative Diagnosis and Treatment Strategy™. Your entire medical history, including your current medications, are taken into account throughout this process and discussed thoroughly. It is possible that your prescriptions and supplementation will change once you begin working with these trained medical professionals who understand the potential necessity and benefits of pharmaceutical prescriptions. Yet, there is no predetermined way to know what will be most appropriate and feel most comfortable for you.

33 Concerning the products at www.courtyardmarket.com, how do I navigate the wealth of information for these nutritional products and supplements?

Courtyard Market offers you a uniquely different shopping experience. We are passionately committed to your good health, and without exception, the products we offer in our store reflect that commitment.

To select products that will genuinely enhance your well-being, we devote unprecedented time, energy and resources to verifying the quality of the products that we sell. Our product specialists have had many years of experience in manufacturing natural products and supplements. They recognize that product claims and labels do not always reveal the true quality of a product. Thus, they exhaustively review a product’s marketing claims and quality parameters prior to including it in the Courtyard Market.

Our product specialists review the manufacturing processes used to produce both the product and its ingredients. During the review process, we consider and evaluate the following:

    • Sustainability and fair trade practices.
    • Microbiological specifications and finished product testing to verify that a reasonable and safe standard is met.
    • Full disclosure of all ingredients in a product review ensures that shelf life and potency claims are verified. Safety tests have been conducted for any product that contains ingredients susceptible to microbiological contamination, pesticide residue, and/or the concentration of heavy metals.
    • Valid scientific testing, as well as traditional healing and wellness support, to verify efficacy claims. We do not accept claims that are unsupported or based solely on testimonials or fads.
    • Drying methods utilized for botanicals. We exclude some of the common methods because they transform a wonderful plant into an ineffectual powder.
    • Carriers, excipients, and processing aids used in manufacturing, which might dilute the potency of the finished good and often contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or synthetic ingredients.
    • Solvents used for extraction.
    • Ingredients that might contain GMOs. We require that the manufacturer demonstrate the knowledge – and the commitment – to avoid sourcing ingredients that contain GMOs. If we are unable to find an otherwise qualified product in a category, we will post a disclaimer, so that you will know that the product may contain GMOs (usually due to a soy-derived processing aid that the manufacturer considers necessary, and which cannot yet be sourced from Certified Organic or Identity Preserved soy). We are committed to finding products that meet all our quality and criteria standards and are manufactured without the use of any potential GMO crops.

We know of no other store committed to this level of expert scrutiny, so you can purchase anything we offer with confidence.
